European Negotiation Conference 2025

The The world has entered an era of profound political, economic, and social transformation. The dominance of unipolar global systems and soft power has given way to an increasingly fragmented landscape marked by the rise of authoritarian regimes, regional conflicts, and climate crises. Europe faces renewed challenges in safeguarding its security, managing migration flows, and addressing the societal impacts of climate change. Amid these systemic disruptions, unilateral solutions are no longer sustainable. In this context, negotiation, mediation, and social dialogue remain essential tools for reconciling divergent interests and achieving sustainable solutions. The European Negotiation Conference 2025 aims to establish a hub in Europe for dialogue among scholars, practitioners, and civil society on how these tools can address the challenges of our times.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY OF THE SORBONNE

Hosting this conference within the walls of the Sorbonne carries a profound symbolic and academic significance. Founded in 1257 by Robert de Sorbon, the Sorbonne is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe. For over seven centuries, it has stood as a beacon of intellectual rigor, critical debate, and scientific progress. The Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as a continuation of this illustrious tradition, embodies the values of openness, interdisciplinary exchange, and social responsibility. By convening scholars, practitioners, and public actors in this historic setting, the European Negotiation Conference not only explores the challenges of our time but also reconnects with a long legacy of knowledge in the service of the common good.

Our objectives

Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration among researchers, trainers, practitioners, and policymakers in negotiation and conflict resolution.

Showcase European contributions to negotiation and mediation theory and practice.

Promote innovative tools and methodologies for addressing complex global challenges through negotiation.

Strengthen the link between academic research and practical application in business, diplomacy, and societal transformation.

The creation of the Druckman Prize for Negotiation Innovation, established on the initiative of Professor Daniel Druckman, exemplifies this objective. The prize supports short-term projects that translate negotiation research into meaningful real-world applications.

Negotiation training workshops at the Conference

During the conference eight hands-on workshops have been designed and delivered to foster experiential learning, connect theory to practice, and equip participants with cutting-edge tools for negotiation in today’s complex world.

Participants feedback

What I take away above all is the huge energy, positivity, and genuine sense of connection that ran through the entire event.”

“ENC didn’t just make me thinkit made me write, speak, and want to act. That’s what great conferences do.”

We believe ideas, like genes, should not thrive in isolation; they must recombine, adapt, and shape the future. And ideas multiply when minds unite.”

The Wall of Non-Negotiable: Giving Children a Voice

What is truly non-negotiable?

Before  the European Negotiation Conference 2025, children from schools across France were invited to answer this powerful question through words, drawings, poems, or stories. Their voices formed the Wall of the Non-Negotiable, a collective artwork and symbolic opening to the conference. This educational project honors children’s innate sense of justice, giving space to their values and inspiring a fresh, human-centered vision of negotiation rooted in empathy, dignity, and intergenerational dialogue.
